These images from Thailand, Bangkok are going around like wildfire on social media platforms: a couple is lying relaxed on an air mattress in a rooftop pool in Bangkok. The sun is shining, there is a beautiful view of the skyline, the atmosphere is good… Until suddenly the water starts to wave as if they are in the middle of a storm. This is not a party, but a major earthquake. And not just any one.
At that moment, a major earthquake takes place in neighboring Myanmar. The quake – with a magnitude of 7.7 on the Richter scale – causes buildings in Thailand to literally start dancing. And so do rooftop pools. In the video you see how the water in the pool quickly starts to wave and goes over the edge. The couple in the pool is almost dragged towards the edge, they are tens of meters above the ground.

Experts have even shown that the death toll in the region could rise to 100,000. people approximately.
In the meantime, many videos are circulating of what the earthquake did to swimming pools at height. Water flowing over roof terraces, windows breaking, people fleeing. But the video of the couple on the air mattress from relaxation to chaos in a few seconds is the scariest of all.
