New images show how fire could arise
Images of the fatal fire in café 'Le Constellation' in Crans-Montana show how young people bring champagne bottles with fireworks inside. The flames fly through the fireworks to the sound-absorbing foam rubber on the ceiling, which immediately catches fire. This seems to confirm earlier witness statements about fire fountains as the cause.
One hundred injured, twenty seriously injured
At least 40 people were killed in the fire. One hundred others were injured, of which more than twenty suffered severe burns. Doctor Wassim Rafoul of the University Hospital in Lausanne reports that thirteen adults and eight minors have been admitted. They have burns on more than 60 percent of their bodies, combined with smoke poisoning and other injuries from oppression during the panic in the cafe.
According to Rafoul, these are life-threatening injuries, because there is a good chance that vital organs will fall out. These patients are at the beginning of a long, intensive treatment process.
