A private Learjet 60 crashed in a residential area of Palm Beach County, Florida, on November 1, 2026. All nine people aboard were killed. Investigators are now working to establish what happened during the aircraft’s final moments.
What Happened Before The Crash?
The aircraft departed Austin-Bergstrom International Airport in Texas and was heading to North Eleuthera Airport in the Bahamas. It crashed near Military Trail, close to Cresthaven and Greenacres, at approximately 12:50 p.m. local time.
Air traffic control recordings reported by Reuters indicate that the pilots mentioned icing and moderate turbulence before declaring an emergency. The aircraft then entered a rapid descent.
Hundreds Of Residents Affected
The impact caused a major fire and damaged the roadway. Around 600 residents from a nearby mobile home community were affected by evacuation and relocation arrangements.
Military Trail was closed as emergency crews and investigators responded to the scene. Local authorities warned that the road closure could continue for an extended period.
Investigation Underway
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is leading the investigation, with support from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
Investigators will examine the aircraft, flight information and weather conditions. Although the pilots reported icing and turbulence, officials have not established whether either factor contributed to the crash.
The Search For Answers Continues
The investigation is expected to provide more information about the aircraft’s final descent and the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
